Matt Booty: the exclusivity of XBOX games will be decided on a case-by-case basis
Booty explained that, while for the titles already announced on other platforms XBOX will honor the commitments already made with the public, for the others each title will be analyzed individually, favoring the most appropriate choice over the most immediate one. A flexible approach that aims to balance the creative and commercial needs and expectations of those who await the next releases.
The manager has set two key principles: multiplayer titles and live-service games will continue to be distributed on multiple platforms, while for releases for which a multiplatform release had already been announced, the company will keep what it promised.
Outside of these cases, each new release will be evaluated individually, with the intention of communicating the supported platforms at the same time as the announcement of the launch date. This less rigid view recalls the choices made in recent years, when titles such as Indiana Jones and Forza Horizon have expanded their availability beyond the XBOX ecosystem.
However, the case-by-case strategy leaves room for questions about future big franchises: how will XBOX behave with the next chapter of Halo, considering the strong online component? And why does Senua also arrive on PS5, given that there had been no previous announcements? Onlytime will allow us to understand how this new "flexible policy" will go: once all the multiplatform commitments already made have been respected, we should probably have a clearer picture of how XBOX intends to balance exclusivity and universal access for its flagship titles.
