Xbox One: first contact

After a long day of indoor arena in the stadium to follow the various pre-E3 conferences, in the evening I had the opportunity to participate in a hands-on event with Xbox One and some of the games shown at the Conference yesterday.  Here are some quick impressions waiting to more detailed articles.

All event locations with Xbox One already in its final form with its controller, and Live the console makes it definitely better than in pictures: the hard lines of the design and the mix of matte black and polished effect definitely a pleasant and very elegant. About the controller I got to try a demonstration of the new vibration, with the possibility to activate different effects: the vibration on the trigger returns a very particular effect that you feel best when they are pressed in half instead of completely, and combined with two vibration motors on the handles can get very different sensations from the rumble to which we were accustomed so far. I particularly liked the effect of the wheels when braking with ABS which attacks and triggers that they perceive the effect of block-quick release of tyres, as well as another effect that simulated firing a machine gun: this system will undoubtedly more shooter and racing games. The controller General is comfortable, not too different from the current one.

And now we come to the games: the most important ones present at the event were Ryse and Forza Motorsport 5 , of which I could only play the first because there were 5 stations, while in the second there was a single file with mileage. Tonight I will be at the party and I will therefore test it properly, but I from what I saw I thought a racing game: the view from the cockpit is fine with the occasional effects of refraction on the windshield, while the circuit, the same demo E3, it's really wonderful for design and graphics rendering.

Even Ryse was possible to play the demo Conference itself, may test the combat system. The demo was extremely straight and led, which charged the demonstration explained is that it was made just for this occasion, because the game will then more freedom. The combat system includes three main types of moves: attack with sword (X), Parade (A) and shot with the shield (Y), to unbalance the enemy when it begins to Dodge our shots. After seated 4-5 rounds per opponent contributes a QTE system that allows us to give him the final blow. One thing I noticed in the fighting is that the camera is too close to the character, and this prevents us from seeing where other enemies attack around there (don't wait that we ended up fighting with our opponent at the moment): even here, in charge of the demonstration told me that you're doing the tuning on the camera and that this should change, however was very clear in saying that this is not an action game to the God of War but that it is a cinematic action game ", in which the spectacle of the actions is first and foremost. I was then told that the Kinect support is completely optional, will give orders to the troops as well as via voice through gestures, but that the same things can be done with the controller. Other actions that I could do was put my Tortoise training soldiers to attack a group of archers and catapult attachment order at the end of the demo. Graphically stunning, the feeling that I have left is that of an extremely spectacular title but who has yet to prove that you have a gameplay up to expectations. The demo was too driven and scripted AI to judge: even it was impossible to mistake the QTE because pressing the wrong was pretending that he was pressing the right one.

Among the other games featured at the event I could see the Crimson Dragon, fully playable with the Kinect controller and without, World of Tanks, Project Spark, Max: "The Curse of Brotherhood and Killer Instinct. For these I refer you to more details when I can play them in detail, however, the impression is that cold, besides picture quality textures and lighting engines more or less valid, here there is the "surprise factor" of Ryse and strength. For now I am very interested to Lionhead, that seems to promise very high doses of creativity and freedom, surely Microsoft response to Little Big Planet.

For now: the boys are waiting for me for a rich American breakfast and then immediately all at the Los Angeles Convention Center for the first day at the fair. Here Los Angeles, close!
