In addition to the announcement of Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered, Crystal Dynamics has also revealed the first new title in the series in 23 years: it is Legacy of Kain: Ascendance, a retro-style scrolling action-platformer, arriving on March 31st.

Developed by Bit Bot Media in collaboration with FreakZone Games, the game breaks away from the classic canons of the series to offer us a frenetic 2D action platformer. This new adventure is positioned as a prequel to the iconic Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, and will take us to explore a dark world made up of collapsing kingdoms, haunted ruins and fragmented timelines. The graphics will mix a very accurate pixel-art with a retro flavor with new anime-style cutscenes, designed to give greater impact to the key moments of the plot. In addition, to the delight of the nostalgic, we will be able to face special 3D sections inspired by the classics of the 32-bit era during some fundamental passages of the story.

Pad in hand, we will find ourselves taking advantage of a movement system strongly based on verticality and fluid fights that will reward our skill. We will be able to chain melee attacks, elusive dashes and supernatural powers to dominate enemies, all while controlling three powerful protagonists. In fact, we will have the opportunity to unleash Kain's immense vampiric force, take on the role of Raziel (first as a human knight Sarafan and then for the first time in his winged vampire form) and finally discover an ultra-aggressive approach devoted to pure offensive thanks to the new vampire Elaleth.

The sound sector promises to be a real heartbeat for historical fans: the return of the legendary original voice actors of the saga has been confirmed, with Simon Templeman to voice Kain, Michael Bell for Raziel, Anna Gunn in the role of Ariel and Richard Doyle as Moebius. Accompanying the action will also be an epic original soundtrack by renowned artist Klayton.
