Krafton announces the spectacular action-RPG Project Windless

Krafton today announced Project Windless, a new open-world action-RPG based on the epic fantasy universe of the South Korean novel series The Bird That Drinks Tears. Developed in Unreal Engine 5 by Krafton Montréal Studio in close collaboration with the publisher's South Korean teams, the title promises to be an impressive premium experience entirely single-player, devoid of any multiplayer or live-service element, coming soon to consoles and PC.

The game will transport us to a mythological age, about 1,500 years before the events narrated in the original work of the famous Korean author Lee Yeong-do. In this vast world divided by war and populated by four intelligent races (Humans, Rekon, Nhaga and Tokkebi, each with their own culture and worldview), we will take on the role of the Hero King. He is a mighty legendary warrior belonging to the Rekon, an imposing race of humanoids with the appearance of birds, known for their ferocity and devastating strength. Wielding two blades forged by the stars, we will have to face seemingly insurmountable challenges, clashing with gigantic creatures and knocking down dozens of enemies at the same time.

Thanks to the use of the so-called "Mass Technology", Project Windless will throw us into the heart of huge musou-like pitched battles in which thousands of soldiers and creatures will clash in real time on dynamic battlefields. The combat system, fast and based on skills, will not see us give orders from the rear: we will fight directly on the front line. We will have to combine naked action with fundamental tactical decisions to lead the allied forces and influence the flow of the clashes.

The title will offer a non-linear structure in which exploration and relationships will be crucial. By interacting with the various factions scattered around the world, our decisions will shape alliances and actively influence a conflict on a continental scale. As pointed out by creative director Patrik Méthé, the goal is to give us real freedom of decision: we will not just passively witness an epic story, but we will create it ourselves on the battlefield, laying the foundations for a future kingdom.

An official launch window has not been announced at this time. To pass the wait, Krafton offers us the announcement trailer of the game and a set of artwork showing the spectacular settings. Find everything below.
