Diablo 30th Anniversary: The Sorcerer Takes the Lead in Diablo II's Surprise Expansion

Blizzard Entertainment celebrated a historic milestone tonight with the Special dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Diablo, an event that kicked off a year full of news for the entire franchise. The broadcast unveiled massive updates covering the past, present and future of the saga, with the introduction of a new class, the Warlock, which will make an appearance in all active titles, embodying different eras of Sanctuary.

The most surprising news for fans was the shadowdrop of Diablo II: Resurrected's Reign of the Warlock expansion; This is the first new class playable in the game in over 25 years. The Sorcerer is a dark spellcaster who draws power from the flames of the Underworld, specializing in summons, bonds, and demonic transformations. In addition to the new class, the expansion enriches the endgame: we will now be able to choose which acts to make "Terrified" to maximize difficulty and rewards, and by defeating bosses in this mode on Inferno difficulty we will have the chance to unlock an unprecedented challenge against the Colossal Ancients. There is no shortage of improvements to the "quality of life" that are highly requested, such as the addition of filters for loot, new tabs for the Chest and the Chronicles system to track the progress of our treasure hunts.

The Warlock is also the second class expected in Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred, the new expansion arriving on April 28. In this new chapter, we'll return to Sanctuary to face Mephisto in the new and ancient region of Skovos, characterized by Mediterranean-inspired landscapes. The big news is the arrival of two new classes: the already seen Paladin and the Sorcerer, here characterized by a "metalhead" style made of chains and flames.

The expansion of Diablo IV will also bring with it an evolution of the game systems, in particular with regard to the endgame. War Plans will be introduced, customizable activity paths that will allow us to shape our game experience after the end of the campaign, and the Echo of Hate encounters, challenges in waves of increasing difficulty to test our builds. To see the Sorcerer in action on Diablo IV in more detail, we will have to wait for the live broadcast dedicated to the developers scheduled for March 5th.

Finally, Diablo Immortal will also receive its share of content throughout 2026, with the return of Andariel, the Lady of Anguish, and the arrival of the Warlock class scheduled for the summer of 2026. We will also return to visit the city of Lut Gholein, divided between the chaos of the popular district and the elegance of the elevated district. It is therefore expected to be an intense period for all fans of the saga, with constant updates that will accompany us until next year's BlizzCon.
