State of Decay 3: the head of Xbox studios reassures on the progress of development

n a recent interview granted to GamesRadar+, the head of Xbox Games Studios, Craig Duncan, returned to talk about one of the most anticipated titles by fans of the brand: the zombie-based survival State of Decay 3.

While the game was originally announced in July of 2020, information has been quite scarce over the years, with the last sign of life dating back to 2024 thanks to a trailer showing short gameplay clips. The Fanos were worried about the fact that he was not even present at the recent Developer_Direct, so the newspaper asked Duncan if this year we will finally be able to see new footage or receive more concrete information; The manager did not provide a precise timeline, but wanted to reassure fans by sharing his direct experience with the title.

The executive revealed that he has visited the development studio several times over the past six to eight months, during which he was able to try the game directly with the team. "It's coming up really well," Duncan said, confirming the management's optimism about the franchise and the work the developers are doing.

Moving the discussion to the general strategy of the gaming division and the future towards 2026, Duncan also touched on the topic of releases on platforms other than Xbox. Taking as an example the reboot of Fable, which will also be released at launch on PS5, he admitted that so far there has been some inconsistency regarding which titles arrive on other devices, explaining that the realities of development and the size of the teams can often influence initial plans and force you to revise strategies as you go. Obviously Fable is a very expensive title to develop, and probably Microsoft wants to recoup the costs quickly, leading the company to decide for the immediate launch on the Sony console.

However, Duncan emphasized the intention to work on making this strategy more consistent in the future, reiterating that the main goal for game creators is always the same: to make sure that as many players as possible can enjoy their work.

That said, we just have to wait for further official updates to find out when we can return to fight for survival in the world of State of Decay 3!
