Koei Tecmo announces Fatal Frame II Crimson Butterfly REMAKE

The oldest among you will probably remember Project Zero 2: Crimson Butterfefly, a horror game by Tecmo released on the first Xbox in 2025 and the second episode of the franchise known in the US as Fatal Frame and in Japan simply as Zero. Twenty years later, Koei Tecmo has now announced Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE, a complete remake of the original game expected for early 2026.

The game will take us back to live the scary adventure of twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura. During a visit to a stream linked to their childhood memories, her older sister Mayu is attracted by a crimson butterfly that leads her to a mysterious and remote village wrapped in a perpetual night.

In this disturbing place we will have to try to escape a mysterious ritual and the vengeful spirits that populate it. Separated from her sister, as Mio we will have to look for her to find an escape route. The only tool at our disposal to defend ourselves will be the Camera Obscura, a particular device capable of capturing and exorcising ghostly presences. Our actions will lead us to involuntarily retrace the past, until we discover the truth about the "forbidden ritual that must never be witnessed".

The developers promise a complete remake of the original experience, with improvements to graphics, sound, game systems and controls, for an even more interesting and engaging adventure. The game will come with Japanese dubbing and Italian subtitles. We leave you with the announcement trailer and a set of images.
