Microsoft announces FPS Boost: Frame rate doubled for backwardsable stocks on XSX and S

Microsoft today announced another welcome new addition to the Xbox backwards compatibility program, designed specifically for Xbox Series X and S: it's theFPS Boost. Retrocompatibility engineers have managed to find a way to double - and in some cases quadruple - the frame rate of specific games, without the intervention of the original developers. Just like with automaticHDR.

This means that, over time, more and more backwardsable titles will go to 60 or even 120 fps, thus offering a much smoother and more rewarding experience than originally.

The first titles to take advantage of this possibility, already from today, are Far Cry 4, New Super Lucky's Tale, Sniper Elite 4, UFC 4 and Watch Dogs 2; over time many other titles will be enabled to theFPS Boost. Among those enabled today, it is worth mentioning that New Super Lucky's Tale will now be able to shoot at 120 fps, while UFC 4 brings the 60 fps to Xbox Series S, where they were not available until now.

But that's not all: Microsoft has also anticipated that a new operating system update will arrive in the spring that will introduce the "Manage Backwardscompatibility " option for backwards compatible titles, where we can decide for ourselves whether to turn fps boost andautomatic HDR on or off.

It's great to see how Microsoft continues to invest in an important feature such as backwards compatibility, which allows us to continue to enjoy the titles of the past: we hope for more news on this in the near future!
