Microsoft reveals surprise Project Scarlett: it will be called Xbox Series X

Here's completely unexpected news from The Game Awards,Geoff Keighley's show that took place tonight: Microsoft used this important showcase to reveal the official name, appearance and a spectacular trailer for Project Scarlett, the next console coming in late 2020. It will be called Xbox Series X!

As you can see from the trailer and the attached images, the console has a very original and unusual look, a kind of monolith on which stand out a ventilation grid with a green backlight and slot for the optical reader; we can also admire the new console pad, which for now looks similar to the current net of a d-pad redesigned based on that of the Elite controller and a Share button, similar to that of the DualShock 4, to quickly share images and clips.

Microsoft also confirms that the Xbox Series X will be four times more powerful than the Xbox One X,will be extremely quiet and can be used both horizontally and vertically. The console will be compatible with all Xbox One games (including back-compatible games from the first Xbox and 360 existing) and accessories, and the new controller will be seamlessly usable on Xbox One and PC.

The "X" at the end of the name could also confirm the two-console strategy that has been rumored several times: this will be the most powerful console on the Xbox Series line, while an Xbox Series Sis likely to be announced later. We await news on this.

We'll leave you to the announcement trailer, which also shows us some of the possible games on the new console including Halo Infinite and a new Forza Motorsport, and some images of the console. Have a good look!
