343 Industries: Halo Infinite will be a "spiritual reboot" of the series. What does it mean?

During a recent interview with the U.S. site IGN, the head of 343 Industries Bonnie Ross said that Halo Infinite, the new title of the series expected to end 2020 and that you think will come to the launch of the new family of Xbox Project Scarlett, is considered to be a "spiritual reboot" of the studio franchise. But what does this mean?

The term "spiritual reboot" has never been used in similar contexts, but we can try to understand what Ross meant by analyzing the meaning of a term rather used: "spiritual successor". The developers use the term spiritual successor when a title is thought of as the successor of a famous series, but it is only "in substance", without being officially because of licenses; A game like this reminds you very closely of the series to which it is inspired, but it is called another way, it has different characters and a different story. Famous examples are Yooka-Laylee (Banjo-Kazooie), Mighty No. 9 (Mega Man) and the not yet released bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (Castlevania).

With "spiritual reboot", Bonnie Ross could then refer to a reversal of the same concept: a game that is actually a sequel to Halo 5: Guardians, taking up the story of Master Chief and Cortana from where we had Left in 2015, but distorting or otherwise radically changing all the elements at the base of the series, thus introducing a real reboot of the mechanics of the game, the interaction with the world and the characters met (not randomly Some rumors talk about RPG elements) and probably even the multiplayer experience.

In short, if a "spiritual successor" is not a real and official sequel but maintains the elements behind the work to which it is inspired, a "spiritual reboot" We imagine it as an official sequel to all the effects, but that puts it back in Discussion all the central elements in an attempt to create a new and fresh gaming experience. Imagine what Sony did with the recent God of War: This could be a very fitting example of a spiritual reboot.

This makes Halo Infinite a project decidedly much more interested, even beyond how beautiful we were shown in the trailer of announcement (which we propose below). We can't wait to learn more!
