Microsoft acquires rights of Gears Of War, Black Tusk will take care of the upcoming titles

Microsoft has just announced that it has concluded the deal with Epic Games to purchase rights to the series of Gears Of War, including those on existing and future games. The new development team for the franchise will be Black Tusk Studios in Vancouver, also Rod Fergusson, Director of Production of the series at Epic Games, will join Microsoft and will play a key role of leadership at Black Tusk for upcoming titles in development.

Tim Sweeney, CEO and founder of Epic, has finally commented: " we are very proud of the franchise that we built with Microsoft over the past years, and we are pleased with this agreement, Microsoft may pursue the Gears universe on their platforms while Epic will focus on other projects. We are however totally available to Microsoft to support Xbox One with our Unreal Engine 4 ".

It only remains, therefore, that wait and see like Black Tusk Studios will bring forward an IP that for many has become a symbol of the Xbox brand: the task is not easy, but with the guidance of Rod Fergusson and the fact that the team is already collaborating with MS Research to develop new gameplay mechanics bode well for a revival of the series.
