Rumor: no optical drive in the next Xbox

Keeps the reel of rumors around the next home console Microsoft: a rumor today comes from the authoritative English site MCV, who claims to have received an interesting cues from one of his informants. According to the source of the news, Microsoft would have begun to inform developers and business partners that the next Xbox will not be equipped with optical reader, although it will maintain compatibility with storage solid state: this could include SD cards, USB sticks or some form of memory.

If this were to be confirmed, it would mean that with the next Microsoft console has no plans to make the final leap to Digital Delivery, which may be reflected in the rumor according to which it would have been created some kind of "anti-used"; but it would also turn their backs to the home video market as well as understand it today, currently dominated by DVD and Blu-ray, in favor of the exclusive use of video on demand systems like Zune Video or other app, a little at a time are coming already on Xbox 360.

But it is said that this marks the end of the retail market: saw the hint support for mass storage solid state, it is possible that at least the most important games arrive in stores and canned in their beautiful memory, or we might imagine that the game packs, limited editions including, rather than include the disk simply contain a code to download gametogether with manuals and extra collectibles.

For now we can only make assumptions: we hope that Microsoft will soon light on the subject, maybe at E3.
