Bethesda reconfirms plans for the future: TES, Fallout, Starfield and more

In addition to the announcement of the Fallout remasters, Bethesda wanted to clarify today all its plans for the future, which include all the studio's major franchises, to reassure fans after the wave of layoffs and reorganizations in XBOX. Let's analyze them together.

The most relevant news from a technological point of view is certainly the adoption of the Creation Engine 3, a shared platform in development since the launch of Starfield that will allow teams to support multiple projects simultaneously thanks to new tools, cutting-edge rendering systems and new technologies. It is precisely on this new graphics engine that the foundations of The Elder Scrolls VI rest, which currently represents the main focus of the studio with the majority of developers working on the next chapter of the saga. The game is proceeding according to plan: the team has declared that it plays it every day with great satisfaction for the visual sector, preparing to pick up the legacy of a masterpiece like Skyrim which, fifteen years after its release, has exceeded 65 million copies sold.

The post-apocalyptic universe of Fallout is also one of the top priorities for the software house, with multiple projects in active development including two great returns that fans have been asking for a long time: as already revealed, the team has in fact confirmed that it is working on the official remasters of both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, although it has not yet announced the launch window. And the surprises for the Wasteland do not end there, as a new collaboration has been made official with the historical friends of Obsidian Entertainment for the development of a further unpublished project related to the brand, on which details will be released in the future. As for the new numbered chapter, Fallout 5, the title is currently in pre-production and is considered the long-term destination of the studio, also developed on the new Creation Engine 3.

In the meantime, support for the titles already available continues unabated: in Fallout 76, where we will be able to continue exploring Appalachia together with millions of other fans, a massive expansion entitled Raven Rock is coming for next year, which will serve as a prequel to the story of Fallout 3 and will add to the almost 70 free updates already released. Fallout 4, the franchise's most awarded game, is also celebrating its tenth anniversary by surpassing 35 million copies sold and continuing to attract new audiences every year. On the mobile front, Fallout Shelter dominates with over 250 million users and is ready to receive new Seasons, as well as an unscripted television project currently in the works in collaboration with Amazon Studios and Kilter Films. Just in the television field, the production of the third season of the main series has already started, celebrating the 10 Emmy nominations obtained by the second season. While there won't be a traditional Fallout Day broadcast this year, the studio is already planning a big live event in Washington, D.C. to celebrate the saga's 30th anniversary in 2027.

Looking at deep space, Starfield is confirmed as a fundamental pillar for the future of Bethesda, with over 17 million users who have accumulated almost a billion hours of total gameplay. As it enters its third year, we will be able to continue expanding the Colonized Systems with new stories, gameplay improvements, and additional free updates, as the developers prepare for the launch of new Starborn content for next year. A central role in this success is played by Creations, already used by over 40% of users to customize their experience and recently also landed on Fallout 4, thus supporting the Skyrim and Starfield communities. A philosophy, that of sharing development tools born since the days of the Morrowind Construction Set, which has already allowed content creators to earn over 10 million dollars in royalties.

All this impressive amount of work is part of a broader internal reorganization strategy aimed at bringing Bethesda's teams closer together to speed up development times and ensure even more lasting support over time. With this in mind, ZeniMax Online Studios will work closely with Bethesda Game Studios on the entire The Elder Scrolls franchise, while continuing to support The Elder Scrolls Online, where Season One: Return of the Thieves Guild content recently debuted and where many more news are planned for the future. With a legacy of forty years of history and nearly half a billion people entertained, the studio reaffirms its commitment to investing deeply in the creation of these virtual worlds, working closely with both its community and external teams to shape the next generation of RPGs for XBOX and beyond, for decades to come.
