Hideo Kojima reveals new details about OD for XBOX: "We will go beyond the limit of terror"

In a recent in-depth article published by Entertainment Weekly to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of XBOX, Hideo Kojima returned to talk about his new and mysterious project in development for Microsoft, OD. Developed in Unreal Engine 5 in collaboration with the famous Oscar-winning director Jordan Peele, the title promises to be a completely new horror experience, designed to make us literally overdose on fear.

Apparently, the work is proceeding at full speed and principal photography with a stellar cast has officially begun. To accompany us in this adventure we will find actors of the caliber of Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer and the late Udo Kier, whose face was carefully scanned before his death at the end of last year.

As revealed by the famous game designer, the concept behind OD is so ambitious and revolutionary that it initially scared the gaming industry. Before finding an ideal home at XBOX thanks to the support of former CEO Phil Spencer, who immediately understood the potential and vision of the project, Kojima had collected numerous rejections. In this regard, he said:

I wanted to do something new. I wanted to do something different. I had this concept of OD ever since I was working on Death Stranding, and I was working on it alone.

I can't reveal many details, but it's something no one has ever seen before. A new game system. I have proposed it to many people, to large companies and also to emerging companies. Everyone said the same thing.

They said I'm crazy, and that they didn't really understand the concept – that they wouldn't be able to make it happen.

As for the gameplay, while maintaining strict confidentiality on details to avoid unpleasant leaks, we know that we will be faced with a single player experience that aims to set new standards for the genre.

When we finally get to dive into the world of OD, we'll have to deal with mechanics designed to push us far beyond the boundaries of traditional terror. However, Kojima also thought about our reactions, devising a solution to allow us not to abandon the game in the most tense moments. In fact, he reassured fans with these words:

I wanted to go beyond the limit of 'scaryness' that other games had reached. It's a single player game, and I wanted to make it as scary as possible.

But for those who might stop playing when it gets too scary, I've thought of a system that will allow them to continue.

I can't say much more, because it would give too many clues about the system, and I could get in trouble if I said too much!

So we just have to wait to find out what terrifying surprises this new adventure will have in store for us, which for now we still don't know if it will be an XBOX exclusive or not. In the meantime, we leave you with a new and disturbing image released in the article: you can find it at the top, or you can expand it by clicking on the following thumbnail.
