Ubisoft announces Rayman Legends, a remake of the 13-year-old platformer
The choice to rework a title whose original formula was already considered very solid and extremely refined certainly represents a courageous move, but the details released confirm that we will not be faced with a mere aesthetic update. The developers wanted to infuse a more radical transformation into the work, trying to make fidelity to the original coexist with evolved dynamics, effectively overcoming the concept of a simple cosmetic remake.
The game will be able to count on a precise control system and fluid movements that fully respect the heritage of the series, while keeping intact the great visual quality and readability of the levels. The real revolution, however, lies in the level design, which will no longer follow a strictly two-dimensional logic. In Rayman Legends Retold we will in fact have to face sections in which space opens up to the third dimension, transforming the camera into an active element of the gameplay. In these situations, depth will play a fundamental role in navigating the levels, requiring us a little initial adaptation effort.
To further break the linearity of the experience there will be the spectacular sequences called "Dragon Ride", designed to completely distort the game time. In these segments, we'll be abandoning the methodical approach typical of platforming sections and immersing ourselves in fast-paced, fast-paced, cinematic action. We will find ourselves reacting instinctively rather than analyzing the environment, while we will be busy chaining dodges, quickly correcting our flight path and throwing fireballs. These phases will act as real adrenaline peaks within the adventure, inserted specifically to break the rhythm and avoid any form of monotony.
From an artistic point of view, the game will keep intact the vibrant colors, the light-hearted tone and the energy that have always characterized the brand, but the original "watercolor" coloring will be replaced by more vivid and bright colors, while the new three-dimensional perspective will make the scenarios much larger, transforming the backdrops from simple decorative elements to active parts of the level structure. Ubisoft aims to offer an overall larger experience than the original, while also optimizing the co-op sector to adapt it to today's expectations.
We leave you to the announcement trailer: enjoy!
