Borderlands 4 Receives Its First Story DLC: Mad Ellie and the Crypt of the Damned Arrive

2K and Gearbox Software have announced that the first of two Story Packs planned for Borderlands 4, entitled Mad Ellie and the Crypt of the Damned, is available today. This full-bodied additional content allows us to take on the role of a new Vault Hunter, C4SH, and immerse ourselves in the mysteries of Whispering Glacier, a new icy setting full of dangers, missions and legendary loot to recover.

The most relevant news is represented by the introduction of C4SH the Rogue, a particular CasinoBot that joins the cast of Borderlands 4. After winning a particularly risky card game, C4SH has come into possession of a magic deck that grants him dark benefits in battle; we will be able to customize his unique action abilities and use him not only in the DLC content, but in all areas of the base game. If we decide to start a new adventure with him, we will have the opportunity to jump directly to the contents of Mad Ellie and the Crypt of the Damned starting from level 13.

As for the plot of this expansion, we will have to head to the Whispering Glacier, a frozen land where a menacing cosmic entity puts Kairos at risk. In this mission we will join forces with Ellie, the skilled mechanic daughter of Moxxi, and we will be guided by the already known Mancubus Bloodtooth in an attempt to destroy an alien monolith to access the cursed Crypt of the Damned. While exploring this area littered with wrecks, we will have to fight our way through tough enemies such as the veterans of the DAHL Legion, the ferocious Kraggon and the Scav, facing a total of 2 battles with main bosses and 16 minor bosses.

Along with the paid content, the free update to version 1.5 also arrives, which brings with it a long-awaited feature: shared character progression. With this system, every new Vault Hunter you create will have instant access to map progress, collectibles, SDU Tokens, and cosmetic rewards already unlocked by the other characters in the save. Additionally, the level cap for all Borderlands 4 players has been raised from 50 to 60, allowing us to further refine our builds.

Loot remains the beating heart of the experience, and this first Story Pack is no exception, introducing three new Pearlescent weapons and 11 Legendary items, including shields, grenades, and new Class Mods. Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned is included in the Super Deluxe Edition and the Vault Hunter Pack, but can also be purchased separately. Support for the title will continue throughout 2026, with a roadmap that includes the arrival of additional free endgame content and new paid packages in the coming months.
