Jason Ronald hints at big news for the future of Xbox in 2026

It seems that 2026 is the year in which we will discover more about Xbox's next gen plans: In a recent BBC video, the Vice President of Xbox Gaming Devices and Ecosystem, Jason Ronald, briefly took the floor to pique our curiosity about the future of Xbox, in view of its 25th anniversary.

In the video, Ronald began by commenting on the launch of the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally, explaining that the current moment was deemed the most suitable for Xbox to enter the laptop market. In fact, he emphasized that we are always looking for new opportunities and ways to play, and that today player dynamics, industry trends and technology have aligned to finally make a portable Xbox device sustainable and feasible.

However, the juiciest comment came when he was asked a direct question about expanding backward compatibility with the titles of the first Xbox to be included on Game Pass. His answer was rather elusive, but at the same time full of implications: "I can't announce anything today, but 2026 will be Xbox's 25th anniversary, and we want to celebrate the great legacy and history we have, as well as define the future in which the Xbox ecosystem is heading."

He then reinforced the anticipation, explaining to the interviewer: "I can neither confirm nor deny what you ask, but stay tuned. We have a lot of interesting things to share next year."

Ronald's words therefore give us hope for the arrival of potential big announcements, from which we should finally find out the direction that Microsoft will take, both in terms of technology and commercial offer, for the next hardware. Stay tuned!
