The director of Avowed leaves Obsidian and joins Netflix

Unexpected news comes today from one of the Xbox studios: Carrie Patel, the game director of the recent RPG Avowed, has announced that she has left Obsidian Entertainment and, consequently, Xbox Game Studios. Patel is preparing to embark on a new professional adventure at Netflix Games.

The confirmation came directly from the developer through a post on her LinkedIn profile, in which she specified that she will join the Night School studio as a game director. This transition marks the end of a long-standing collaboration with Obsidian Entertainment, which lasted nearly twelve years, during which Carrie Patel held senior roles as narrative co-lead and senior narrative designer, as well as game director.

Night School Studio is known to the public for creating well-liked titles such as Oxenfree and its sequel, Oxenfree II. At the moment, no details have been released about the new project that Carrie Patel will work on, and the studio has not yet made any public announcements regarding its future plans.

As for Obsidian Entertainment, the studio is currently engaged in the development of The Outer Worlds 2, whose game director is Brandon Adler. This title will be the protagonist of a special Direct event, immediately after the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8th.
