Rumor: a portable Xbox is coming this year, the new consoles in 2027
According to Jez Corden, the Xbox-branded portable gaming device will be all and about a handheld PC (codename of the "Keenan" project) produced by third parties (such as Asus, Lenovo or MSI) that will have an unmistakably "Xbox" look, with a simplified Windows interface adapted to gaming.
In addition, according to the well-known journalist, the Xbox division has obtained Satya Nadella's approval for the successor to the Xbox Series X|S platform. Microsoft's next-generation hardware plans include a successor to the powerful Xbox Series X, an Xbox gaming handheld device (manufactured directly by Microsoft), and several new controllers, scheduled for 2027. Next-generation Xbox consoles are expected to be closer to a Windows PC than ever before, reducing the work required for developers to port from PCs. At the same time, these devices will still retain complete backward compatibility with present and past Xbox games.
Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has already hinted in previous interviews about the desire to support third-party stores on Xbox hardware, including the Epic Game Store, GOG and Steam. And the rumored Hybrid console seems to be going in that direction. Last but not least, it is assumed that artificial intelligence will play a central role in the next generation, along with Xbox's cloud capabilities.
If this is true, we will see the new portable console at the Xbox Showcase in June (still without a date), and probably Microsoft will also outline its own strategy for the next Xbox, of which this device will only be the first "incarnation". We just have to wait to find out if the rumor will be confirmed!
