505 Games and MercurySteam, the Spanish studio behind the two excellent Castlevania: Lords of Shadow as well as the most recent Metroid Dread, today announced Blades of Fire, a fantasy action-adventure coming on May 22nd.

Blades of Fire is set in a world where the evil Black Queen has turned all steel into stone, rendering any opposition to her rule useless. Here we play Aran de Lira, the last hero able to wield steel, accompanied by Adso, a young scholar expert in lost myths and sacred languages. The game will provide us with an almost unlimited variety of weapons, thanks to a new weapon forging system that will allow us to combine countless alloys, grips, runes and blades to create the best weapons for our mission. Each type of enemy will have unique characteristics, and will have to be faced with the right weapon.

• THE DIVINE METAL: You are Aran de Lira, the eldest son of the King's Guard. The newly crowned Nerean Queen has cast a spell that turns steel into stone. Only his army of abominations wields the divine metal against which the other blades shatter.
• THE FORGE: Find the Forge Scrolls, develop your forging skills, and craft your own weapon to suit your fighting style. The weapon family you choose and the materials you create it from will affect characteristics such as weight, length, durability, penetration, and edge quality.
• CHOOSE YOUR WEAPON: Choose from seven different weapon families and over 30 unique Forge Scrolls, allowing for almost infinite weapon combinations. Your choice of weapon will be crucial in facing your enemy!
• TATIC COMBAT: A unique and challenging combat system that allows you to attack specific parts of the enemy's body. Slash, stab, or slash enemies depending on the situation and what the enemy is equipped with. Only the right weapon will allow you to overcome the enemy's armor.
• YOU ARE NOT ALONE: Adso is Aran's companion, a scholar drawn into the hero's journey by fate. Although he is not a warrior, his sharp mind and ancient knowledge will prove invaluable, offering insights that could turn the tide of battle.
