The Coalition: Xbox Series X-optimized Gears 5 goes better than an Ultra PC

The Coalition participated last night in a live broadcast with Epic Games during which they explained the optimizations/improvements made to Gears 5 (which runs on Epic's Unreal Engine 4 engine) on Xbox Series X and that will be available as a free update at the launch of the new console.

So we discover that, on Microsoft's new next-gen console, the title will not only match the performance it has on a PC with Ultra settings and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti tab,but even surpass them by adding more effects.

These are all the features that the game will have active as per "Ultra" settings:

  • High-resolution textures
  • Improved anisotropic filter
  • High-resolution volumetric fog
  • Higher quality depth of field
  • Very high visual distance with a high level of object detail
  • Improved resolution and distance of shadows
  • High-quality screen space reflections
  • Improvements in image post-processing such as bloom, lens flare, light rays, etc.

In addition to this, the game will also have on Xbox Series X a number of features not present on PC:

  • Contact shadows - a feature obtained thanks to ray tracing that allows you to create extremely realistic shadows by calculating exactly the origin and interference of each shadow
  • Screen space global illumination - a lighting technique that guarantees much more realistic ambient lights with superior performance
  • Higher particle volume - the game on Xbox Series X will be able to produce 50% more particles than a PC in Ultra configuration
  • 4K 60 fps movies - compared to 4K 30 fps from Xbox One X and PC

The Coalition also confirmed that it is continuing to test the possibility of running the multiplayer sector at 120 fps,but it is not yet a guaranteed result.

So it seems that, at the launch of Xbox Series X,it's better to go back for a ride on Sera to check out all the graphics improvements the game has received!
