NO LAW: new open-world shooter announced by the authors of The Ascent

Neon Giant, the Swedish studio known for the excellent isometric shooter The Ascent, announced at the TGA the open world single player FPS NO LAW, which promises a "cyber-noire" experience with strong elements of immersive simulation and narrative.

NO LAW will take us to the lawless city of Port Desire, described as "a world built on neon obscenity instead of regulation." The story will see us take on the role of Grey Harker, a former military veteran who tries in vain to leave his old life behind for a quieter existence. When his plan fails, Harker relies on his black ops training and cybernetic technology to seek revenge in this chaotic metropolis.

The developers focus a lot on the responsiveness of the game to our choices and on the impact of the decisions we make. Our actions, whether we opt for stealth or open firefight, will have repercussions on Harker's story. Neon Giant's managing director , Claës af Burén, emphasized that NO LAW represents the next step for the studio, applying what has been learned with The Ascent to "a completely different experience – one that is bigger, more responsive and more personal."

Neon Giant promises a rich story, meant to be enjoyed time and time again, as the different choices made will lead to alternative paths to reach Harker's goal. Creative directors Arcade Berg and Tor Frick acknowledged the comparisons with titles such as the original Deus Ex and Cyberpunk 2077, saying they wanted to create something unique in the immersive sim space, pushing in particular on non-linear storytelling and a world that responds to our actions.

The developers point out that while they want to appeal to fans of those titles, they are also aiming for a wider audience. If we want to experience the game as a more linear single-player shooter experience, we can. But if we prefer a tactical approach, with the use of skills and stealth, we will also have that experience. An unexpected influence mentioned is Studio Ghibli: although it is a dark world, the team does not want to make it grim dark, but rather a "fun place to create violence as a spectacle", with that touch of "lush and calm humanity" to make extremes coexist.

The game does not have a launch date for now; We leave you to the announcement trailer.
