Obsidian Entertainment is working on a new title with Unreal Engine 4

After the acquisition by Microsoft RPG Obsidian Entertainment veterans, everyone is wondering about what they're working on right now that can draw on the resources of the Colossus of Redmond; for now, an ad is probably still far away, but it seems that for their new project has taken a decision to change graphics engine.

At a Conference at the University of California, the Senior Programmer at Obsidian Roby Atadero has explained that while in the past the study utilized a proprietary engine (the Onyx Engine) and for their latest title, Pillars of Eternity II, employed the Unity engine, now I'm working on a new project with the powerful Unreal Engine 4 .

The choice of this engine is probably motivated by the possibility of relying on the great experience that other studies like The Coalition and Rare, we have developed above: one of the benefits of entering the family Microsoft Studios is the You can count on the support of other firms, who often exchanged between their developers and staff, to speed up development processes and squeeze the most of the technologies.

Also the fact that you are using this engine and not for example the relatively simpler Unity, suggests that the new title is not an isometric RPG along the lines of Pillars of Eternity but a true AAA production in first or third person . Obviously we can't wait to see what the Californian study we will propose under the Microsoft banner!
