Use the Gold only for the app? From June to August you can unsubscribe

Probably in Italy this is not very widespread, but in USA there are many Xbox owners that, while not playing online, subscribed to an Xbox Live Gold membership solely in order to use the app, perhaps to show their movies on Netflix or Hulu. Since Jun-Microsoft will remove the block of Gold for all these app, those users would pay a subscription for nothing. The manufacturer has announced via a FAQ that, from June to late August, those who want may request cancellation of your subscription, by obtaining a refund of any remaining months have not yet enjoyed.

The FAQ reads as follows:

You can cancel the Gold membership?

Yes. If you bought a Gold subscription before June, when changes in Gold will be made available until August 31, 2014 you can cancel your subscription and receive a refund proportional to the remaining unused days starting from the day on which the cancellation is made up to the day of expiry of subscription Gold. To cancel your subscription and request a refund, see xbox.com/liverefund .

The link to the repayment mode is still not working, but surely will be updated before June, and anyway you can contact Xbox support to ask for clarification. The initiative has been welcomed in the USA with great positivity as denoting a pro-consumer attitude from Microsoft: who for some reason don't want to more their subscription Gold can now cancel it, as long as they do it by August 31.
