Xbox One: the Creators Update introduces virtual surround sound for stereo headphones

If you are interested at least once to the purchase of a pair of headphones for your console, you may have seen that there are headphones that connect to the optical audio output of the console, are able to create a surround sound effect while having only one speaker for coppa: this è obtained through sound processing systems that allow these headphones to create a "virtual" surround effect.

Well, although it has not yet been officially announced, it seems that with the Xbox One Creators Update this particular effect will be accessible to anyone with a pair of stereo headphones to be connected to your controller.

Customers who are participating in the Alpha test of the new update they found that by connecting a pair of headphones into the console, the audio settings in addition to normal stereo output entries have been added " Windows Sonic for Headphones " and " Dolby Headphone Atmos ". It is made of 3D sound, the first virtualization technologies developed by Microsoft and the second by Dolby Laboratories , which process the reaction gaming surround sound virtual surround effect typical of more expensive headphones, transmitting it on stereo audio channel of the Xbox One controller. This allows us to enjoy virtual surround sound over headphones or earbuds without spending for the expensive headset that implement this system.

At present, however, these two systems work only on Windows Sonic , because the Dolby Headphone Atmos requires downolad of an app but then refuses to start: it is likely that it will be enabled in one of the next updates for Xbox members Insider.

Today, Microsoft has not yet made official announcements regarding these new technologies (while support Dolby Atmos for Hi-Fi systems standard was already announced ): we will update when we know more.
