More leaks on Xbox controllers: a new Elite Series 3 emerges

After yesterday's leak relating to a controller dedicated to gaming on the Cloud, the Brazilian site Tecnoblog is back with a new revelation, this time relating to an alleged new Elite Series 3 controller.

The leak originally came from the Brazilian regulator Anatel, which is apparently working on the certification of the new accessories. Given the timing, it is reasonable to think that the Redmond house is preparing the launch of the new controllers during the summer, with an announcement that could take place during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7 or even earlier.

According to what has emerged, the new Elite Series 3 will introduce several structural innovations designed to improve the user experience. We will be able to use two new sliding wheels positioned at the bottom of the device, on either side of the headphone jack; these could prove to be essential for quickly managing the volume of in-game chat or for controlling specific parameters in complex titles such as Microsoft Flight Simulator. Another innovation concerns connectivity: the controller will allow us to instantly switch from local to cloud mode, connecting directly to the Wi-Fi network to reduce latency, completely bypassing Bluetooth, as already seen for the controller dedicated to the Cloud.

A significant change has also been made to the power system: the controller will have a rechargeable battery that can be replaced independently, allowing us to easily replace it when the charge runs out or if it deteriorates over time. However, the technical data indicates that this new removable unit will have a slightly lower capacity than the one built into the previous model, with a reduction of about 500mAh. On the lower part we also notice a different positioning of the sticks for the reduction of the trigger travel (the so-called hair triggers), while we notice two important absences: the LED and button that indicate and allow you to change the configuration presets disappear (which we therefore imagine will be managed exclusively via software on the console), and a speaker similar to the one present on PlayStation controllers is missing, that many would have liked to enrich the sensory experience during the game.

The hope remains that this third generation will finally be able to solve the critical issues related to the build quality, such as the wear of the materials and the drifting of the analogues, which have unfortunately characterized the past series. The internal characteristics of the controller are not known for now, so we do not know if it will have gyroscopes or Hall effect sticks, nor do we know if new haptic feedback technologies will be implemented.

We just have to wait for the official announcement from Microsoft, which we will report to you promptly; Stay tuned!
