Aphelion: the sci-fi adventure of DON'T NOD returns to show itself on video
One of the most interesting aspects concerns the interactive nature of the score: Bouhafa worked closely with the team to compose an evolutionary soundtrack, based on separate models and "stems" that will allow the music to dynamically adapt to what we will see on screen. At the center of the story we will find the bond between the two protagonists, Ariane and Thomas, whose emotional relationship will be conveyed by a dedicated theme, capable of evolving together with their story.
To convey the feeling of frost and the alien atmosphere of the planet, the composer has chosen to use instruments that are decidedly out of the ordinary. One of the protagonists is the Baschet crystal, an instrument invented in the mid-twentieth century which, in order to be played, requires you to wet your hands and rub crystal rods connected to a metal structure. This particular device allows you to produce magical and disturbing sounds, capable of perfectly evoking the icy and otherworldly identity of the world we will have to explore.
The planet itself will be represented through the powerful notes of the organ, chosen for its ability to be monumental and aggressive, but also intimate and delicate. According to Bouhafa, the organ perfectly embodies the nature of Aphelion's world: a majestic and sacred place that can appear welcoming only to suddenly prove deadly. Thanks to this mix of experimentation and classic instruments, the soundtrack will take us on a multisensory journey, making our fight for survival in the alien ice even more immersive.
