Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons gameplay revealed at Gamescom

Wizards of the Coast and Canadian studio Invoke lifted the veil on Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons, showing off the first gameplay sequences of their third-person single-player action adventure, set in a dark fantasy open world inspired by the famous RPG. The presentation allowed for an in-depth look at the game, with an open world designed for exploration, the first dungeon, monsters and several other elements.

In the game we will play the role of Kaatri, a veteran weapon master who makes a pact to be able to use otherworldly magic against dark forces: to play her is the award-winning Tricia Helfer, seen in Battlestar Galactica and Lucifer. Alongside her debuts a new character, Tasha, to whom Maggie Robertson lends her face. Tasha will play the role of Kaatri's patron and, in addition to representing a real source of power, she will teach her to perceive raw Magic, a power hidden in every corner of Darkon that will allow her to expand and transform her magical abilities.

The heart of the experience is magic, a tool that we can use creatively both in clashes and in exploration, to overcome a wide range of challenges. Wandering around the game world, each spell becomes a key capable of opening new paths and new possibilities, in a beautiful and at the same time disturbing scenario; when we are faced with enemies, spells will combine with hand-to-hand combat, giving life to a tactical and visceral dimension.

The footage reveals the very essence of the production, showing how we will be able to interpret, reshape and ultimately master everything around us. Kaatri transforms the environment, the positioning of opponents and even the weather into tactical opportunities, chaining spells and then taking advantage of them thanks to her skills as a master of arms. The result is a fluid and systems-based approach to both exploration and combat, in which observation and experimentation can uncover alternative paths, lead to unexpected solutions and generate spectacular combinations.

Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is currently in development and is scheduled for release in 2027. We leave you now to the trailer, enjoy!
