Elden Ring Nightreign: first major DLC announced, The Forsaken Hollows

FromSoftware has finally unveiled the first, major expansion of Elden Ring Nightreign, the acclaimed roguelike co-op spin-off of Elden Ring released last May. The DLC, entitled The Forsaken Hollows, was presented with a gameplay trailer that also sets its release: it will arrive on December 4th.

The expansion promises to greatly enrich the experience of this peculiar ARPG, which since launch has already received several substantial updates, such as Everdark Sovereign versions of Nightlord bosses and a difficult mode. According to the announcement, The Forsaken Hollows will introduce two new playable Nightfarer classes, two new main bosses (called Dreglords) to challenge in our Expeditions and several new environments to explore, which will integrate with the randomization function of the Shifting Earth map.

The reveal trailer also showed more. To add more variety to random encounters, the DLC will include enemies and bosses from Elden Ring's acclaimed expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree. In the video, for example, the Fire Knight and the Divine Beast Dancing Lion boss could be seen.

But the biggest surprise for longtime FromSoftware fans was another: none other than Artorias the Abysswalker, protagonist and main boss of the Artorias of the Abyss DLC of the first Dark Souls, appears in the trailer. Artorias will then join the other Dark Souls bosses already present in Nightreign, and we expect to meet him as a Nocturne boss. The hope is that his health and speed have been boosted to accommodate the Nightfarer's more frenetic pace.

We were also able to take a closer look at the two new Nightfarers that we will be able to play as. The first is a mace-wielding woman, capable of covering herself with some kind of buff before launching herself at the target. The second is a man in a tunic who wields a rapier and a magical grimoire, with which he seems able to suspend enemies in mid-air, immobilizing them.

Finally, the trailer briefly showed the two new major bosses, the Dreglords. The first appears to be a legion of armored women dressed in white plates and armed with halberds infused with Holy damage. The second, on the other hand, appears as a gigantic beast surrounded by bones and rubble, which seems to use the Scarlet Rot. We'll need to make sure we find some Preserving Boluses during the Expedition leading up to him!

The description of the trailer also offers narrative context: these new enemies are undead born from the remnants of the Expeditions against the Nightlords. "In our war against the Night, every battle has left a scar," reads the description. "These wounds have been given will. An infamous life, born of outcast souls."

The Forsaken Hollows expansion will be available for purchase for $15, but is included for owners of the Deluxe Edition of the base game.

We leave you to the video and a set of images; enjoy!
