The Drinkbox studio, already known for the two excellent Guacamelee!, today announced Blighted, their most ambitious project to date; it is once again a metroidvania, but this time with RPG elements and an isometric view that makes it look more like Diablo action-RPGs than classic metroidvanias.

The game is in development for PC and consoles with a release scheduled for 2026; Here is the first information, the announcement trailer and a set of images.

Fight your way through a psychedelic western nightmare to recover your people's memories in Blighted, a Metroidvania action-RPG from the creators of Guacamelee!. Harness the power of the deadly, reality-altering Blight and unravel the mysteries of the world.

In the past, the dead were buried with seeds planted in their brains. These seeds grew in trees that surrounded the player's village. The fruits of these trees were special and contained the memories of the dead. Through this fruit, knowledge and traditions were transmitted for generations.

This continued until a man called Sorcisto tainted the ritual. By eating raw brains, he gained enormous power and knowledge. It consumed the player's entire village, destroyed his forest of memory, and infected the world with a deadly plague.

The player takes on the role of the sole survivor of Sorcisto's rampage and struggles to recover the memories of his people, before his own plague overwhelms him.

Explore a world full of mystery in this psychedelic western nightmare. Learn how to harness your Blight, which serves as both a source of power and an added difficulty, challenging players of all skill levels and unlocking some of the world's deepest secrets. Play the entire campaign alone or with a friend in co-op.
