CD Projekt Red: the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 officially enters pre-production

CD Projekt Red announced today, during its first quarter 2025 financial results conference, that the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, for now simply called Cyberpunk 2, has officially entered the pre-production phase.

The news was also released via CD Projekt Red's official X account , where the highlights of the conference were published. While entering pre-production is a significant step, the studio has not provided precise guidance on how long we will have to wait before the game's release, as it could take several years for the title to enter the actual production phase .

The developers also shared a diagram that illustrates the distribution of the teams on the various projects in progress. As of April 30, 2025, CD Projekt Red had a total of 730 developers. Most of these, as many as 422, are currently engaged in the development of the next chapter of The Witcher saga (known internally as Project Polaris).

The second project in terms of number of dedicated developers is the sequel to Cyberpunk, which sees 96 people at work. Then we find 48 developers assigned to Project Sirius, a title that will offer a new perspective on the universe of The Witcher. Finally, 19 people are working on Project Hadar, a new original intellectual property. The remaining developers are employed in shared services and other unannounced projects, developed internally or by third parties.
