Age of Empires II DE arrives on Xbox in late January, AoE IV to follow

After this morning's leak, Microsoft has confirmed the news: Age of Empires finally arrives on Xbox and Xbox Game Pass. It starts with Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, scheduled for January 31 (and not today, as the PEGI site suggested), but also Age of Empires IV will arrive in console version later in the year.

Microsoft explains that the team has worked hard to deliver a gaming experience that is not only enjoyable to use with a controller, but also teaches gamers how to play on Xbox. A new tutorial designed specifically for controller input, coupled with a new console user experience, will help gamers get started. A new in-game AI has also been introduced that will help make resource management in the game more efficient and intuitive.

The game will also support keyboard and mouse, so as to satisfy those who prefer this control system, and optional crossplay between platforms will be supported, allowing us to play with our friends on Xbox and PC. The game will of course also arrive on Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta), allowing players to continue building their empire even when they are away from the PC or console.

Age of Empires II is considered one of the best and most beloved RTS games of all time. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition has grown since its release in 2019. After nearly 40 updates, 3 DLC additions that bring new civilizations and campaigns, and a steady stream of improvements, the game is the best ever. Players can enjoy 83 maps, 42 multiplayer civilizations, 34 single-player campaigns, 10 multiplayer modes and 7 co-op campaigns. And now Xbox gamers will also be able to enjoy everything this phenomenal game has to offer!
