Microsoft for the Environment: Xbox can now be upgraded to power management mode

With energy prices set to rise more and more, one of the priorities in our homes has become energy saving to try to keep bills low. In this regard, Microsoft has announced an important novelty: the ability to download system and game updates in power saving mode.

The Redmond house has published an update on the many steps taken to make Xbox a more eco-sustainable console, and among others (such as the use of recyclable materials and carbon-negative and zero waste distribution lines) we also find the introduction of the activation of update downloads during the energy saving mode, that is the "total shutdown".

Until now, it was only possible to download updates in the background in the "fast boot" mode, which keeps the console in standby but consumes 20 times more power than the power-saving one when the console is not in use. Now we can therefore save more without giving up background updates, which we imagine by turning on at regular intervals only the components necessary for downloading, such as network card and disk, and only if updates are available to download.

Now, especially with Xbox Series X | S, there's really no more reason not to use the power-saving mode, as the new consoles turn on very quickly even from the full shutdown state. Great news for those who want to keep their electricity bill under control!
