Microsoft: No first-party titles are expected to arrive on other consoles

Following the arrival on Nintendo Switch of titles such as Cuphead (actually an indie not released by Xbox, so not tied from the beginning to exclusive contracts) and Ori and the BlindForest, many fans have wondered if other Xbox exclusives would arrive on the competition consoles in the future.

To dispel these doubts, a company spokesperson who, speaking to the industry site Gamasutra, explained that Microsoft has no plan to bring its exclusive first-party consoles (understood as developed titles) to other consoles. Xbox Game Studios). This also applies to the following of titles developed by newly acquired XGS studios, which will come out on other consoles to honor existing contracts prior to acquisition. This is the case for example with titles such as The Outer Worlds and Wasteland3, which, despite being developed by Microsoft studios, will arrive on other consoles because of previous agreements; However, if new episodes of these series were to be developed in the future, these would be exclusive Xbox (where Xbox still means Microsoft's entire gaming ecosystem, which also includes PCs).

All this excludes the xCloud variable: for example, if Microsoft and Nintendo were to agree to bring the xCloud client to Switch, then there we could play all the Xbox titles as it will be feasible on any Android and iOS smartphone and tablet, but in this case we're talking about streaming and not a real publication of those titles on other platforms. And of course it doesn't include titles that come out first on Xbox but aren't developed by Microsoft, such as the upcoming BlairWitch; Although they are in fact Xbox exclusives at launch, they can always arrive later on other platforms as well as titles like NieR: Automata arrived on Xbox after coming out exclusively elsewhere.
