All the Xbox One become dev kit, now in Preview and in the summer for others

One of the promises that Microsoft had made the launch of the Xbox One was the ability to turn any console in a development kit to allow everyone to make at home apps and games: today the House of Redmond holds the promise announced the Dev Mode of the console can be activated already today by members Preview and available in the summer for everyone else.

What does this mean? It's simple: while so far anyone who wanted to develop on Xbox One had to ask Microsoft a dev kit, a special designed exclusively for console development tasks, from today anyone with a PC running Windows 10 will start developing applications or games for Xbox using the development environment Visual Studio 2015 , also available in free version , then drop them and test them on your console. This will allow anyone to experiment with the development on the console, and who should be able to create apps or games worthy of publication will subject them to Microsoft to publish the console Store, although this will require validation by Microsoft and the signing of a contract providing for the transfer of a percentage of any profits the manufacturer , as they do already today all game developers and paid apps.

To enable Dev Mode of the console just download the app Dev Mode Activation , which will provide a number of links to documentation and tutorial on how to start developing for then turn on developer mode. Be warned, though: this is not an operation to do lightly. First, the program is still in beta and Microsoft warns that the activation of Dev Mode could cause sporadic problems with games retail. Also if we rethink and want to turn off this mode, you will need to perform a factory reset which will erase all content from your console installed, thus forcing you redownload or reinstall them from disk. So it's something to do, at least at this early stage Preview, only if you're really motivated to experiment with developing apps or games on the console.

If you are not interested in the development, the news is still very important because it opens the door to the arrival on the console, from this summer onwards, to a large number of applications and games developed by fans from all over the world: there's obviously who hopes the arrival of emulators for retrogaming, who in the release of advanced media player and so on. Microsoft has announced that always in the summer will begin to arrive on the console the first Universal App, developed by using this system, greatly enriching the offer of the console.

We just have to wait to find out what all this will lead!
