Rumor: Kingdom Come Deliverance developers working on Lord of the Rings RPG

After riding the wave of success achieved with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, it seems that the Polish Warhorse Studios are now ready to work on a third-party IP, and that IP: according to recent rumors, the team would in fact be working on a new great RPG (or action-RPG) based on The Lord of the Rings.

The first rumors about an impressive game in development dedicated to the world created by Tolkien have actually been circulating since the end of 2025. The information leaked at the time spoke of a real blockbuster, financed with almost 100 million dollars by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, and structured as a third-person action game with atmospheres similar to those seen in Hogwarts Legacy. Considering the recent disappointments related to the franchise, such as Gollum and Tales of the Shire, expectations for a title capable of redeeming the famous brand are very high.

To reveal the potential identity of the studio behind this mysterious production (initially known within the Embracer Group with the code name "Revenge Studios") was Ryszard Chojnowski. The former project lead of The Witcher and veteran of the industry for 27 years, during an intervention in the Tolkien Polska podcast then taken up by the ResetEra community, said that he learned from very reliable sources that the team in charge is Warhorse Studios. Although initially skeptical when he picked up the news a couple of months ago, Chojnowski confirmed that the whispers around this prestigious collaboration have become more and more insistent recently.

If the rumor turns out to be true, we will find ourselves in the hands of an open-world role-playing game in which we will be able to explore Middle-earth with a level of immersion that only the authors of what many consider the best RPG of 2025 would be able to guarantee. In this adventure we will be able to experience the dynamics of a vast open world on the front line, taking advantage of the team's experience to revive the videogame fortunes of the franchise.

As always, since these are speculations and rumors not yet confirmed, we invite you to take everything with a grain of salt while waiting for any confirmations, which could probably arrive during the Summer Game Fest in June.
