The Witcher 3 reaches 60 fps on Xbox One X unpatched

As we know many games are receiving updates to take advantage of the power of Xbox One X , and one of these is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that everybody waits you begin playing at 4 k. The YouTube channel NX Gamer has however carried out an interesting analysis on the behavior of the game without the patch to upgrade ... nay, without no patches!

Let's take a step back in time. On 19 may, 2015 arrives in stores The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , phenomenally aciont-RPG from CD Projekt RED that surprised everyone not only for great gameplay but also for the beauty of the scenarios. The game had a "problem" on Xbox One: while on PS4 went to 30 fps, on the One had the uncapped framerate , or did not have a frame-rate limiter and could climb up to 40 fps. While this might be considered a good thing, in fact it was because of the frequent changes of frame-rate made the experience more inconsistent. CDPR released then, ten days after the launch, a patch for Xbox One that would limit the frame rate to a maximum of 30 fps.

This means that to date, also on Xbox One X, the game goes to 30 fps because of this limitation. The channel view NX Gamer , but this fact has played an interesting proof by installing the game from disk and without online connection, avoiding actually applying the patch that introduces the frame-rate cap. In this way they could check what happens to your new console game performance, finding that in this way manage to achieve 60 fps : unsettled, sure, with declines that may depend on the complexity of the scenes, but this is a great example of how the new console can bring improvements even in the games "enhanced", when they for example dynamic resolution or uncapped framerate.

Unfortunately we won't be able to enjoy this "involuntary enhancement" because those who have the game installed, also has the patch that introduces the refresh limit, but still it was an interesting experiment. Saw this, it wouldn't be so bad if CD Project RED fit a double switch in the update to the Xbox One X in the game, allowing you to choose between 1080 p/60 fps (with more optimizations to take advantage of the new hardware and avoid declines) and 4/30 frames per second. For now though, this doesn't seem to be in the plans of software house .
