Polish studio 11 bit studios, which also created the acclaimed This War of Mine, announced today that their sci-fi title The Alters will arrive on Xbox Game Pass at launch, expected later in 2024. The announcement is accompanied by new details about the game and a trailer that shows us its particular gameplay, consisting of a mix of management simulation (similar to This War of Mine) and exploration of beautiful alien scenarios.

The game will see us play as the scientist Jan Dolski, a prisoner of a dangerous planet and looking for a way out. After crashing on the planet, dominated by a sun capable of killing anything its rays touch, Jan finds refuge in a highly advanced mobile base, which however needs an entire team of experts to maneuver.

Fortunately, things change when Jan discovers Rapidium, a mysterious substance from this world. By taking advantage of the quantum computer on board the mobile base, Jan manages to create alternate versions of himself by changing fundamental decisions he has made in the past, thus giving rise to alternate versions of himself with different abilities, called Alters.

Alters are indispensable allies and possess several key abilities to repair the base, sustain life, craft essential tools, and extract valuable resources. But they're not amazed robots: each of them is a sentient being with emotions, goals, and even a hint of existential doubt. While this potentially opens the door to chaos, their collective goal remains the same: survive, escape, and do it all themselves.
