Disney abandons videogames and Announces closure of Avalanche Software

In a period of severe crisis which does not spare any industries, videogaming, either arrives today another bad news: Disney decided to abandon the production of video games. This means that there will be no new episodes or expansions of Disney Infinity but especially the closure of the studio Avalanche Software , leaving 300 employees without work.

The news, initially anticipated with a tweet by journalist of The Wall Street Journal, Ben Fritz, was then confirmed by the American company which has thus stated:

"After careful consideration, we decided to change our approach with gaming consoles and switch exclusively to a model based on the license. This change in strategy will lead to the cancellation of the Disney series Infinity due to the franchise's growth in the market and its huge development costs. We also want our internal studio Avalanche Software, responsible for the development of Disney Infinity. "

The company then added:

"It was a tough decision, we haven't taken lightly given the quality of Disney Infinity and its many passionate fans."

The Senior Vice President and General Manager of Disney , John Blackburn, has finally clarified that the Disney series Infinity will close once we will publish "the two latest releases for shops, with three new characters from Alice through the looking glass coming in May and the set by looking for oncoming Dory in June."

Our thoughts are obviously with 300 employees of Avalanche Software that from June will no longer have a job: we hope so they can find new employment as soon as possible.
