The famous-or I should say infamous-market analyst Michael Pachter said recently that, in his opinion, the current generation of console may take about 6 years before Microsoft and Sony have decided to release the next console, and that these could arrive in 2019.

Pachter explains that this will be due to lower prices of 4 k TV, which will push the hardware manufacturers to produce and release of "4 k-ready" by the end of the Decade.

Obviously it is only assumptions that are not supported by any data of course: the previous generation was long in the past, we looked at very short generations (the first Xbox lasted 4 years before the arrival of the Xbox 360). For sure we will have to wait several years.
