Microsoft buys over $ 100 million in patents on augmented reality

It is today the news that Microsoft has acquired patents for a value between 100 and 150 million dollars by wearable computing Osterhout Design Group; It is largely of patents for creating augmented reality glasses whose lenses may superimpose digital projections to the real world, and a cuff designed as control device glasses.

Projecting the image on both lenses, these glasses allow you to place any image in 3D space: for example watching a building we can see tourist information comparirgli next, instead of simply displayed in a flat on the lenses.

This is not the first time that we talk about Microsoft's interest for this type of technology: the first rumor about Fortaleza/Kinect Glasses date back to 2012 and we talk about augmented reality glasses for practical applications in gaming.

We don't know what we'll have to wait to know if all this will turn into a commercial product and maybe an Xbox One: arguably the fact that MS has invested in the acquisition of patents makes us think that it is interested in moving from research to commercialization.
