S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl shows us what's new in Update 2.0
Update 2.0 brings with it a new version of the game engine , offering a visual overhaul of great impact. Exploring the Zone we will notice a much improved lighting, with more realistic shadows and reflections both indoors and underground, as well as landscapes and foliage reworked to give an even more organic feeling. The A-Life system has also received important tweaks, guaranteeing us much more credible meetings and activities. We will happen to come across a greater number of disputed points of interest, such as bus stops or campfires, where mutants and stalkers will cross each other giving rise to dynamic clashes. Added to this are numerous technical fixes that will avoid unpleasant situations, such as enemies being able to shoot at us through walls or overpopulation of certain areas.
The general atmosphere will also be enriched by a fog that will no longer act as a simple atmospheric effect, but will become a real game mechanic, reducing our visibility and hearing, as well as those of our opponents. To accompany these novelties, we will find a renewed graphic design for scenarios with light rain and for monsters such as Bloodsuckers and Flesh, which will show off different aspects based on their habitat. Overall, the developers have packed years of feedback and ideas into this update to make the game world even weirder, more immersive, and more fascinating.
On the equipment front, our arsenal will expand thanks to the introduction of four new weapons: the Arev assault rifle, the GP3A and SKP marksman rifles, and the Fora-230 SMG, with the possibility of finding a unique variant of one of these guns hidden somewhere on the map. New optics will help us aim, including a 3x sight for Western block weapons and a new red dot sight for Eastern ones. The use of off-center aiming has also been unrelated to the use of night vision goggles, giving us more freedom in customizing loadouts.
To better plan our movements, we will be able to rely on three new types of binoculars, which can be purchased from merchants or found by exploring, each equipped with specific technologies and functions to patrol the area and mark targets. We will also have a new statistics page in our PDA to keep track of all our activities, and we will be able to fine-tune the experience through Custom Rules. These will allow us to shape the difficulty according to our style, moving from a more forgiving survival approach to truly hardcore challenges, alongside the Master difficulty and the Expedition mode already introduced previously.
As anticipated, also on August 20 will arrive Cost of Hope, the first expansion of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. This additional content will take us to experience firsthand the historic conflict between the famous Duty and Freedom factions. We will have many hours of gameplay in which we will have to enter completely new settings, including the Iron Forest, the CNPP and the Spatial Bubble, all wrapped in the iconic and oppressive atmosphere of the Zone. The expansion will be included for those who own the Ultimate Edition of the base game, or can be purchased separately at the price of 29,99 Euros.
We leave you with the trailer showing all the news of Update 2.0: enjoy!
