Ubisoft officially announces the cancellation of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake

After a long and troubled development process, Ubisoft has decided to permanently stop work on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. The news comes along with the announcement of a deep internal restructuring for the publisher. The title to the most famous Prince of video games is not the only one to have been affected by this maneuver: the company has in fact canceled five other projects not yet announced, including three new franchises and a game intended for the mobile market.

According to Ubisoft, these cancellations are the result of a new strategy that aims for higher quality standards and a more rigorous selection of titles in production in its studios. The restructuring involves the creation of five "creative houses", studios dedicated to the management of the various franchises. Among these, Vantage Studios stands out, which will oversee series of the caliber of Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six, while other divisions will deal with historic brands such as Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, The Division and Rayman.

While some company documents and rumors hinted at an imminent release of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, the development team admitted that the project failed to reach the level of quality we all deserve. Continuing with the work would have required a greater use of time and resources than the company could responsibly commit. However, Ubisoft wanted to emphasize that the universe of Prince of Persia remains a fundamental pillar of its catalog, and a legacy that is very close to the company's heart. The cancellation of this specific remake therefore does not mean that the company intends to move away from the franchise, which will continue to be held in high regard for the future.
