Bungie Reveals the Secrets of Marathon Frames: Here's How We'll Customize Our Runners

Bungie today released a new and comprehensive in-depth video dedicated to Marathon, the PvPvE extraction survival shooter that will take us to explore the dangerous environments of Tau Ceti IV. The film focuses in particular on the "Frames", or the bioprinted bodies into which we will have to transfer our consciousness to operate on the lost colony. Arriving in March 2026, Marathon promises a deep customization system, where each frame will not only define our style of play through passive skills and unique stats, but will be clearly recognizable even from a great distance, allowing us to immediately understand what kind of opponent we will be dealing with and how we will be able to counterattack.

The developers' approach to character configuration is based on providing us with ingredients rather than a predefined recipe. Through the use of cores, implants, and weapon modifications, we will have the freedom to create unique configurations. Cores, in particular, are extremely powerful features that can radically change the behavior of the Runner, allowing us to create complex synergies between the various systems, almost as if we were assembling a Rube Goldberg machine. Depending on whether we prefer to keep our distance or launch into more aggressive close combat, we will have to carefully manage the elements recovered on the field to better develop our equipment.

The video details different types of frames, each with specific roles. The Destructive chassis, for example, is described as a futuristic version of the Mjolnir armor and was created for those who like to be in the center of the fray: it is equipped with thrusters for quick sprints, a riot barrier to attract enemy fire and heat-seeking missile launchers mounted on the shoulders. If we prefer a more stealthy approach, we can opt for the Assassination chassis, a real infiltrator capable of becoming invisible and throwing discs that create smoke screens. However, its visibility increases with movement speed, so we will have to move with extreme caution so as not to be spotted during healing or attack actions.

For those who love teamwork and support, the Reconnaissance and Rescue frames were presented. The first works as a real "detective" capable of finding enemies through radar pulses, arachnid drones that overheat targets and even holographic footprints that appear on the ground when we neutralize an opponent's shield, allowing us to follow him if he tries to escape. The Rescue Loom instead acts as a field medic, using capacitive gloves to infuse life and drones that constantly provide shields and health to us and our teammates, even being able to share consumables with the entire team.

There is no shortage of options for those who prefer agility or pure resource recovery. The Hooligan frame is the most dynamic of the group, capable of chaining double jumps and enhanced slides to wreak havoc, transforming his arm into a cannon to knock enemies away if necessary. If, on the other hand, our goal is to accumulate loot, the Theft frame will allow us to locate containers through walls thanks to an X-ray viewer and to use a "mechanical butterfly" to snatch loot directly from opponents. Finally, the ROOK mode was presented, ideal for those who want more carefree or solo gaming sessions. By entering as a ROOK in a game already in progress, we will not risk any of our equipment and we will be able to use special masks to blend in with the UESC forces, dedicating ourselves exclusively to the recovery of materials to enrich our storage in view of future challenges.

We leave you to the video; enjoy!
