The Sinking City 2: development delayed due to war, new images
The main reasons for this decision are the ongoing war in Ukraine and the significant gender shift the studio is facing with The Sinking City 2. Sergiy Oganesyan, Head of Publishing at Frogwares, explained the difficulties in creating a video game during a conflict, a situation that forces you to constantly adapt. Power outages that lasted days due to attacks on the power grid, swarms of night drones and the need to work despite sleepless nights slowed down production. The team therefore prefers to take the necessary time, ready to adapt to what the winter brings, rather than rushing the times.
The studio also pointed out how developing survival horror for the first time (the first game was an investigative adventure) brings new challenges. Alexander Gresko, Lead Game Designer, admitted that, after more than twenty years dedicated to detective adventures, survival horror requires a completely different approach to design, especially to manage tension, rhythm and combat. This is an exciting challenge, but one that inevitably makes development slower.
Although no precise date has been set, the team is aiming for the first half of 2026, specifying that it is "months, not years". To accompany the announcement, 13 new screenshots have been released showing the setting, enemies and Lovecraftian atmosphere. In addition, we can expect to see much more gameplay in the coming months, also thanks to the positive feedback received from the first private beta tests conducted with the community.
The Sinking City 2 will take us to the United States of the 20s, to the infamous city of Arkham, hit by a supernatural flood that has driven away most of the residents and brought decay and unspeakable monsters to the streets. To survive, we will have to use an arsenal of era-inspired firearms and melee weapons to face the Lovecraftian creatures. We'll be able to explore a world of decadent mansions, flooded markets, and abandoned hospitals, both on foot and by boat.
It will be essential to look for limited resources, carefully managing a finished inventory while we decide what to take with us and what to leave behind. Finally, we can choose to investigate further, solving optional cases and puzzles that will allow us to discover secrets, alternative options and the background of a plot defined as morally gray and focused on personal loss, intertwined with the Lovecraftian myths of cults and rituals.
We leave you with the new images; enjoy!
