Rumor: Microsoft has repeatedly tried to acquire Bungie again

GamesBeat journalist Jeff Grubb has opened up a new interesting rumour today: in the latest episode of his podcast Grubb stated that he had learned from several sources that Microsoft would repeatedly try to acquire Bungie, but he always desisted because of the excessively high price set by Bellevue's studio.

The news seems rather plausible, given the closeness between the two companies especially in this last period. Remember that Destiny 2 will be made available in the Game Pass with all its DLCs starting September 22, and then welcome the new "Beyond the Light" expansion on November 10, at the same time as the launch of Xbox Series X and S.

At the moment - adds Grubb - however, Microsoft would not be interested in the acquisition of new studios any time soon, it would instead be concentrating a big investment towards something that "is not a new acquisition". However, after years of indifference - corresponding to the period of publicity agreements between Bungie and Activision - the rapprochement between the two companies has rekindled hopes on several fronts: perhaps the last word on the future of the software house is not yet said.
