Phil Spencer: Virtual reality is not a priority for Xbox, no one asks

After the announcement of Project Scorpio, which later became Xbox One X,Phil Spencer announced future support for Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality headsets, Microsoft's interest in these technologies seems to be waning, at least in the console world. In an interview with the Stevivor website, the head of Microsoft's Gaming division has now explained why.

Spencer revealed that VR is no longer a priority for the Xbox team, simply because there doesn't seem to be enough demand for this gaming technology. The executive explained that the company knows the number of headsets sold both on PC and other platforms, making it clear that they do not justify an immediate investment to introduce this technology on Project Scarlett, the new Xbox coming in late 2020, concluding:"We respond to what consumers ask us, and no one asks for VR".

Spencer explains, however, that sooner or later it's possible for VR to reach such popularity that it's also interesting for the Xbox business, but we're not at those levels yet. In short, if you were hoping to wear a Virtual Reality headset with the new Xbox, you will unfortunately not be satisfied!
