An avalanche of information about Sea of Thieves: new content, Kraken, endgame and much more

A couple of weeks ago Rare hosted at their studies a delegation of British gaming press to make them play with pre-final Sea of Thieves in which there were many more content than seen in the Alpha technology and Closed Beta of the game. After reading all the articles produced by warheads present at the event, we propose below a practical summary of all information. Happy reading!

  • The Kraken! -Had already emerged in previous data mining , but now we have confirmation. In Sea of Thieves will face the Kraken , the legendary giant octopus able to grasp with his tentacles whole vessels. Rare explains that the meetings with the Kraken will not be part of this specification but will be random: while browsing can happen, we don't know how often, this terrifying creature that will devastate our ship and our crew. We can even come across other crews engaged in a battle with the creature, and we can decide at that point whether to help or sail off. And the fights with the Kraken won't be a walk: this monstrous being is capable of making holes in the hull of the boats so as to grab players to hurl water, throwing them away or even swallow them up! The pirates can damage it with cannons, exploding barrels and, if caught, by attacking the tentacles with their weapons to break free; at the end of a strenuous battle, though, if they emerge winners will receive the rewards that lie in the belly of the beast, in the form of precious caskets and other items.
  • Not only Kraken -Rare confirms that the Kraken will attend the launch of the game, but the nature of the title as " game" as a service "means that this will be continuously expanded with new products of all kinds. They can then get after the launch, other monsters to deal with: what the developers did unbutton. The presence of the skeletons of giant sea serpents on the ocean floor of the game suggests, however, which could be one of these monsters.
  • Customizing characters -the game will allow us to select the appearance of our pirate pirates out from a choice of 8 randomly generated among millions of different combinations, but if none of these satisfy us we will ask how many times We want a new random generation until we find one that satisfies us. The idea is to ensure that every player has a character completely different from others, while offering them a measure of control in the process. This does not mean that we will not be able to customize our pirate: once you choose the basic model, we can change the hair, beard and even provide it with wooden legs or hooks. We can then further customize your character with many clothing items found in stores or obtained as a reward for specific missions. Be careful, though, because once you have chosen our pirate we will no longer be able to change the basic appearance and will remain forever associated with our Live account: Rare wants that our character becomes a true alter-ego, always remaining recognizable when we meet friends and other players. An interesting piece finally arrives on hit-box: it doesn't matter if we choose a character very fat or skinny: everyone will have the same hit-box, then a fat character there exposes more strikes as well as one small there will more safe.
  • Endgame: the Lair and raid -the goal of every player in Sea of Thieves will be to become a "legendary pirate", which will be completing all quests offered by one of the many companies on the Islands outpost. Once you have this lens, there will be given the keys to a secret lair (which was also present in Closed Beta but nobody has found) called " the tavern of the legends " in which we will invite members of our crew. This will become the new starting point for all missions "endgame", which will require highly skilled pirates but we will reward even with priceless treasures. A sort of "raid" of Destiny, which will require a lot of effort but will offer major awards; to address these missions will not be necessary that all participants are legends: just so only one, while the rest of the crew will be even neophytes. This means that the legends will become pirates much sought after by the other players, who try to get into their crew to participate in the most exciting raids.
  • Captains -a few months after the launch of the game will arrive the first major update of Sea of Thieves , and with this the possibility to become, after becoming legends and carrying out different missions "raid", a ship's Captains all our. This will give us access to a new type of ship highly customizable, and whoever will meet in the seas will understand immediately the ship that we are looking for old sea dogs with many battles behind. The status of Captains will then log on later updates, in missions designed specifically to the most experienced crews and led by captains sailed.
  • Outposts of skeletons -who played the Alpha Test or the Closed Beta will have noticed some islands full of fortifications and watchtowers abandoned. In the final game they will be the scene of occasional clashes with skeletons very powerful, but hiding huge treasures. While browsing we happen to see in the distance a huge cloud skull that warn us of the presence of one of these outposts. All the local players will see it, so it's likely that more crews will go on site to fight the skeletons and try to appropriate the treasures, with inevitable clashes between the various crews that maybe until shortly before they had teamed up to take out the undead. Once you kill the skeleton "boss" of the island, in fact, this will release a key that will give access to the great treasures of the area, and it is therefore expected that the players will fight for possession of the key.
  • A dynamic world -the world of Sea of Thieves will be dynamic and constantly changing: new Islands will make their appearance over time, others will disappear and also as present on the Islands themselves may change, including biomes themselves. Imagine for example that a curse is released to the world, and this will cause the mutation of a part of the Islands that will become "damned" or maybe for seasonal events will be introduced specific elements of the various holidays.
  • Loot crates no, microtransactions Yes -Rare explains that in the game you may see the much criticized system of loot crates , crates can be purchased with real currency that generally release random objects that add power and ability to the player, and that many have lately equated to gambling; but that doesn't mean there won't be microtransactions, because players will be given the opportunity to buy in-game currency or real objects that will be completely cosmetic and will not change the balance of the game. The first objects of this type will be some pets, we can take with us during missions just to play with them or having them around.

That's all for now: this information we confirm that Sea of Thieves will be a title much more rich and full of things to do than the Closed Beta had hinted, and we are confident that it is only the beginning: Rare certainly has plenty more surprises for all honeymoon pirates. The we will discover all starting from 20 March!
