Variety: sharing the work on Gears of War movie

In July of 2010 Cliff Bleszinski stated that the screenplay of Gears of War had been terminated and that the film would not have seen the light of day before 2012. The production of the film was already scheduled from 2007, but was interrupted when the project was abandoned by New Line Cinema. Today, however, it seems that the first draft created by Stuart Beattie ( Pirates of the Caribbean: beyond the borders of the sea ) for New Line Cinema has been cancelled altogether.

Indeed we learn from Variety that Epic would reach an agreement with the producer Scott Stuber (Repo Man, Wolfman, Safe House – no one is safe, Ted and Battleship) to retake the reins of the project and to write firsthand.

According to the source, Stuber and Epic are looking for a studio to ensure the distribution of the film, which might be the Universal being on good terms with the same Stuber, though remain to define yet cast, budget, and release date.
