The Defiant: a new gameplay video from the Chinese front of World War II

4Divinity and the development studio Hoothanes have today released a new gameplay trailer for The Defiant, a war FPS that will see us explore and experience a little-told front of the Second World War: the Chinese one.

Instead of taking us back to the traditional and inflated battlefields of Normandy or the Pacific, the title will in fact put the spotlight on a historically less explored aspect of the conflict: the Chinese resistance against the Japanese invasion that took place between 1937 and 1945. During the adventure we will follow the events of common soldiers through the changing seasons and years, moving to different and fascinating regions of China recreated starting from real places of the battles.

In terms of gameplay, we will be called upon to constantly operate behind enemy lines, crossing dense frozen forests, well-guarded logistical hubs and entire population centers under Japanese occupation. We will have to infiltrate silently, carry out acts of sabotage, collect valuable military information and neutralize targets from a distance while remaining in cover. However, when stealth is not enough, we will be forced to make the weapons sing and hold the position in brutal firefights, being able to count on a meticulously reproduced arsenal of the time, such as the Hanyang Type 88 rifle.

The studio also announced that the game will make its official debut in the West in a week's time, at gamescom 2026 in Cologne, after showing itself to Asian audiences during the recent ChinaJoy in Shanghai. Those present at the German fair will be able to test a fifteen-minute demo by going to stand B021 in Hall 7, from 26 to 30 August.

We leave you now to the new video: enjoy!
